he 2011 Lincoln Navigator ranks 6 out of 6 Luxury Large SUVs. This ranking is based on our analysis of 58 published reviews and test drives of the Lincoln Navigator, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.
The 2011 Lincoln Navigator gives buyers comfortable seats in all three rows, practical cargo space and a long list of high-tech standard features, but an underpowered engine leaves reviewers wanting more.

In a competitive class, the 2011 Lincoln Navigator is simply passed by its rivals. The Navigator is a good choice among Luxury Large SUVs, but offerings from Infiniti, Mercedes, Lexus and Cadillac are just better. Edmunds points out that “The Mercedes GL-Class offers better handling and a more prestigious image, while the Cadillac Escalade and Infiniti QX56 boast much more powerful V8 engines.”
Still, reviewers say that if you don’t want to pay for prestige or power beyond what the Navigator offers, the Lincoln isn’t a bad choice. It offers an interior that’s roomy and luxurious, though a few reviews complain about some cheap parts. Lots of standard features like Ford’s SYNC infotainment system and a navigation unit, coupled with a low price make the Navigator a good value in its class. Plus, when it comes to practicality, the Navigator trumps much of the competition: its third row can seat adults and folds into the floor, making it easy to extend the cargo space.
If you just want a comfortable, large SUV and can do without the bling, check out the Ford Expedition, the Navigator's less ostentatious cousin. It’s just as capable and comfortable, but offers more casual surroundings and a lower price. Opt for the Expedition, and you're looking at a savings of about $19,000.
For buyers who just can’t do without a luxury brand, the Cadillac Escalade is the closest competitor to the Navigator. Reviewers say removing its third row seat for more cargo space is annoying, but it does have better acceleration than the Navigator, plus longer warranties and a more luxurious interior.
Large SUVs like the Navigator are meant to go off road and tow heavy loads, as well as provide a large seating capacity. If all you want is something that can seat a crowd, you can save money at the dealership and the gas pump by going for a large crossover like the Lincoln MKT. It can still seat a crowd, but you don’t have to pay for the Navigator’s beefy capabilities that you may not need.
